“But why you take undue advantage of other’s religious sentiments and emotions. What is wrong with your mindset? How can you do this for the purpose of your business?” Justice Rohit Arya Said on Munawar Faruqui’s Bail Plea.
The single-judge bench of Indore high court on Monday reserved its order of bail plea filed by comedian Munawar Faruqui. The comedian was arrest for making alleged comments against Hindu Gods and deities. Munawar Faruqui has been under arrest since January 2.
The bench asked Faruqui’s Advocate Vivek Tankha if he wanted to withdraw the bail application. Tankha argued that his client had not committed any offense and bail should be granted.
However, Some intervenors opposed the bail application, told the bench that the comedian has made highly objectionable statements against Hindu gods and deities.
Munawar has posted several previous videos that were circulated on social media 18 months ago. These remarks were made in all his videos and he repeated them in his latest 3 comedy shows. This has led to other comedians making such remarks about Hindu Gods. This is happening with 70% of the comedians”, one lawyer submitted.
Munawar Faruqui made other objectionable statements against Lord Ram and Sita.
“Such people must not be spared. I will reserve the order on merits”, Justice Rohit Arya said.
Police had booked five accused under sections 295-A and section 269 for insulting religion or religious beliefs. The judge asked other counsels objecting to the bail application to file their concerned documents and supported evidences.
