Delhi NCR: While another flood has created havoc in the rainy season, the price of vegetables has spoiled the taste of food of the common man. Till some time back, tomato which was being sold at Rs 10-20 per kg has now crossed the Rs 200 mark. But amid the spurt in tomato prices, the central government has taken a relief step for the common man, now the central government will sell tomatoes at subsidized rates in some cities including Delhi NCR from tomorrow i.e. Friday.
Tomato will be available at 30% less price
According to the plan of the central government, they will be sold at retail shops and the price of tomatoes will be at least 30% of the market. The Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Wednesday that NEFD and NCCF have been asked to immediately buy tomatoes from the mandis of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra and make them available to customers at subsidized rates.
In Delhi NCR, NCCF will sell tomatoes through its sales outlets, NAFD, Safal stores of Mother Dairy and mobile vans. As per the notice of the Ministry, till the price of tomato comes down, the sale will continue at subsidized rates. Tomato prices are likely to come down by the beginning of August.
In which city will tomato be available cheap?
As per the order of the Modi government, tomatoes will be sold at subsidized rates in Varanasi, Kanpur, Patna and Kolkata including Delhi NCR. In the midst of inflation and floods, this announcement will definitely bring some relief to the common man.
